Call this single-story, country residence your home and you will truly be able to enjoy the host of outdoor activities Lewis County and Northern New York have to offer! This ‘ready-to-live-in,’ ~1,248 sf, 3 bedroom, 1 bath, home was built in 1982, with improvements, maintenance and upgrades performed by the current owners. My wife and I literally live next door and have known and enjoyed both neighbors during our 38 years here.
This wood framed and sided structure was built on a concrete slab with interior floors covered with carpet or linoleum. Heat is primarily provided by thermostat controlled electric baseboard heaters, however supplemental heat may be generated by wood stoves in both the living and recreation rooms. Hot water is produced with a 40-gallon electric hot water heater (New in 2020). A roughly 30’ deep, dug well supplies an abundant source of clean, fresh water via a submersible pump (New in 2013). The painted steel roof, (New in 2007), a desirable ‘north country’ attribute, will quickly shed snow on the warmer days of winter. A large enclosed porch, which became the ‘rec’ room for the current owner’s children, comes complete with full size pool table and air hockey board. A covered, screened porch off the living room is the most desirable place for backyard wilderness siting’s (which will include deer, bear, fox, coyotes, turkey, grouse, a variety of song birds and an occasional moose to name a few) during early summer when insects are in the air. The open, covered, ‘sunrise’ porch off the master bedroom is the ideal place to start your day with a hot drink when they are not!
An unheated garage/shop under the same roof is large enough to work on and store lawn equipment and recreational vehicles. If additional space is needed for larger toys and vehicles, a much larger garage/shop could be built conveniently adjacent to the driveway. A small shed, located adjacent to the well and driveway, is currently a handy location for tools and yard equipment. Finally, a back yard bonfire pit is icing on the cake for those looking to make s’mores, stay warm on cool mountain nights and tell tales around the camp fire!
The current owners intend to leave the kitchen and laundry appliances, all the TV’s and related equipment, lawn mower and trailer, all the bedroom, dining room, recreation room and living room furniture, pool table and air hockey board, overhead train and track system, deer head and firewood. A copy of the deed and survey map are included with this listing below the Description.
Within the Adirondack State Park and not far from 'downtown' Number Four, you will find the main attraction here, without a doubt, is the crisp, clean air, vast green forests, abundant wildlife, starlit nights, and water in every form you can imagine. If you like to hike, canoe, kayak, swim, snowshoe, hunt, trap, fish (all year ‘round), ride ATV's, snow sleds, or horses, or just enjoy the solitude, sights, sounds and fragrance of the great outdoors, you will find it here, or near Number Four. The Smith Road, ~.3 miles to the west, is the local gateway to the 76,000-acre Independence River State Forest. The trail to Panther Pond, and the river itself begin at the roads end. A 10-mile journey to the east reveals Stillwater Reservoir, with all the splendor and adventure of a huge body of water in the western foothills of the Adirondacks. Stillwater and Number Four Roads are both plowed snowmobile roads with nearby access to Snowmobile Trails C8, which takes you to northern Adirondack destinations and C7B, which will take you to Old Forge and the Tug Hill Plateau. The Otter Creek Horse Trails are just a 15-minute drive to the west. And just around the corner to the north, follow the Beaver River Flow, a popular destination for anglers, canoeists, and whitewater kayakers alike. Grocery, hardware, and department stores, as well as the Lewis County Hospital, are just 20 minutes to the west in Lowville. If you and your family love the great outdoors, imagine having year ‘round access to so many recreational opportunities, at or near the place you call home!
